Hierarchical Temporal Memory: Biological Mapping to Neocortex and Thalamus

Tuesday 20th of March 2007 at 01:30pm
3105 Tolman Hall (Beach Room)

Jeff Hawkins and Dileep George have proposed a theoretical framework for how the hierarchical structure of neocortex builds a model of the world. This theory, called Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) has been turned into a technology platform and is currently being applied to varied problems of pattern discovery and inference by their company Numenta. In this talk Hawkins will give a brief introduction to the technology and then give a detailed mapping between the concepts underlying HTM and the anatomy and physiology of neocortex and thalamus.
